If you’re looking for a twist on the traditional summer treat, look no further. Change the classic sweet treat of vanilla ice cream with the addition of early summer berries and a dash of balsamic vinegar.
- 1 quart strawberries, rinsed, hulled and cut in half or quarters
- ½ pint blackberries or blueberries (optional)
- ¼ cup sugar, or more to taste
- 1 teaspoon high-quality balsamic vinegar, or more to taste
- 5-6 fresh basil leaves or mint leaves, torn (optional)
Step 1
Toss strawberries (and any other berries, if using) in sugar, and let sit for at least 10 minutes. Do not refrigerate.
Step 2
Sprinkle with the vinegar; toss gently, taste, and add more sugar or vinegar if necessary. Toss again, and serve, garnished with torn basil or mint leaves. Spoon into a glass or bowl, and serve next to ice cream.
